IASBS President’s message on National Basic Sciences Day

The IASBS President, Prof Sadollah Nasiri Gheydari, has issued a message on the occasion of National Basic Sciences Day and the commemoration of Abu Rayhan Biruni.

In the Name of God

Today, the progress of every society has been made possible through innovation, acquisition of skills, and access to technology. The driving force of technology has been nothing other than the effectiveness of science. Among the different fields of knowledge, the basic sciences have certainly played a significant role in attaining various levels of technical expertise and producing technological products.

For this reason, at the proposal of the Policy Council for the International Year of Basic Sciences, the Public Culture Council has designated 4 September, the birthday of the renowned Iranian scholar Abu Rayhan Biruni, as “National Basic Sciences Day” in the official calendar of Iran. The aim has been to draw the attention of researchers and experts more than ever to the importance of this field. As the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution has stated, “The basic sciences are the main element in our path towards the pinnacle of honour and scientific dignity of the country. To reach that day, we must expand the basic sciences in such a way that the knowledge of sciences such as mathematics, physics and chemistry becomes the norm.”

I have taken this opportunity to extend my congratulations on this memorable day to all the distinguished and esteemed academic staff, the devoted and hard-working employees, and the diligent and dear students of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS) in Zanjan. I pray to Almighty God for their ever-increasing success, happiness and health. It is hoped that with divine blessings and through their sustained and tireless efforts, we shall witness the further growth and advancement of this University and our beloved country in the field of science and technology.
