The Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS) has achieved a global ranking between 1001 and 1200 in the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026. The results have placed IASBS among the world’s leading universities.
The Times World University Rankings is one of the most prestigious global systems for evaluating the performance of higher education institutions. Each year, it assesses universities worldwide based on a comprehensive set of scientific and impactful indicators, including Teaching, Research, Citations, Industry Income, and International Outlook.
In the 2026 ranking, data from over 2,191 universities across 115 countries were analysed. Among these, the Islamic Republic of Iran has had a strong and remarkable presence with 90 universities listed, demonstrating the country’s active engagement in international scientific competition.
According to the published results, one of the most notable achievements of IASBS in this round has been its outstanding performance in the “International Outlook” indicator. The University has ranked second among all Iranian universities, including those under both the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education.
The “International Outlook” indicator measures a university’s global presence and contribution through factors such as the recruitment of international faculty members and students, the extent and quality of cross-border scientific collaborations, and joint publications with foreign researchers. IASBS’s improvement in this indicator reflects its focused approach towards the internationalisation of higher education and research, the development of bilateral and multilateral academic cooperation, and active participation in global scientific and research networks.
In the Times ranking system, the final score of each university is calculated through a combined approach, with 65 percent of the score based on verifiable institutional data and 35 percent derived from validated self-reported information. This analytical framework reflects both the educational and research quality of universities and their impact on industry and the global scientific community.
The IASBS management has congratulated the University’s faculty members, researchers, students, staff, and all other members of its academic community on this valuable achievement, describing it as “the result of collective effort, strategic planning, and the University’s purposeful progress towards enhancing its global academic standing”.
The IASBS management has also expressed special appreciation to the Office for Scientific and International Cooperation (OSIC) for its continuous, precise, and coordinated efforts in documenting scientific achievements, strengthening international relations, and ensuring the University’s effective and transparent participation in the Times ranking process, acknowledging these efforts as key factors in attaining this success.
