At the tenth regional conference on Climate Change and Global Warming hosted by the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS), the Secretary-General of the UNESCO National Commission in Iran, Dr Hassan Fartousi, has said that climate change is an issue beyond a merely environmental challenge and has emphasised the need for a comprehensive and responsible approach to this phenomenon.
Expressing his appreciation to the IASBS Founder, Professor Yousef Sobouti, and the IASBS President, Prof Sadollah Nasiri Gheydari, he described the continuous organisation of this conference as a sign of the scientific community’s concern for the fundamental issues of the contemporary world and regarded the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences a worthy platform for scientific dialogue in the field of climate.
Referring to the wide-ranging consequences of climate change, including the reduction of water resources, threats to food security, and intensification of extreme events, the Secretary-General of the UNESCO National Commission said that effective confrontation with these crises requires a link between knowledge, education, and social responsibility.
In conclusion, emphasising the role of universities in raising awareness, producing knowledge, and providing scientific solutions, he said scientific cooperation and global solidarity were the principal conditions for increasing societies’ resilience to the consequences of climate change.
