According to the IASBS Public Relations Office, the IASBS President, Prof Sadollah Nasiri Gheydari, has described programmes aimed at strengthening the relationship between science and society as one of the university’s responsibilities in the educational, research, and cultural fields.

Referring to the university’s experience of organising scientific events and meetings, the IASBS President said that some of the university’s programmes were held regularly and that the continuation of these scientific activities played an important role in increasing their impact. However, alongside regular programmes, opportunities also arose that might not be repeated and whose potential needed to be used as effectively as possible. Science Night was one such opportunity.

Stressing the university’s collective responsibility for organising the event, the IASBS President said that the more professionally and successfully a programme was held, the more the university’s reputation and standing would be strengthened. Referring to the experience of organising the 2002 Physics Conference, he identified solidarity and cooperation among university members as important factors in the event’s success and stressed the need to foster the same spirit in organising Science Night’s success and stressed the need to foster the same spirit in organising Science Night fulfilment of responsibilities. He said that the event’s success depended on each part of the university carrying out its duties within the allocated time limits and on close coordination and cooperation among the different sections. He added that solidarity and cooperation among university members could pave the way for a memorable event.

Emphasis on using the university’s capacities

In another part of his remarks, the IASBS President referred to limited financial resources and stressed of the university’s existing capacities of the university’s existing capacities and facilities, as well as to pursue support from external organisations.

Prof Nasiri said that holding a successful programme did not depend solely on financial resources. The experience of organising the 2002 Physics Conference had shown that, by relying on determination, cooperation, and the proper use of existing capacities, it was possible to hold a high-quality programme worthy of the university’s name.

The IASBS President also stressed the need for student participation in various parts of the event, describing students as one of the university’s valuable capacities for implementing scientific and cultural programmes. He noted that the success of Science Night required the participation of all parts of the university and that the event should be pursued as a joint university activity.

Bringing science to the general public

Producing scientific content suited to general audiences was another issue stressed by the IASBS President.

He stressed the need to produce suitable content for Science Night, saying that the event’s content should not be presented solely in the form of specialist and academic material. Instead, scientific concepts and achievements should be communicated in simple language that was understandable to the general public.

With the event approaching, the IASBS President stressed the need to accelerate content production and called for the participation of different parts of the university in providing and preparing the scientific and cultural content required for Science Night.

The IASBS President also stressed the need to adopt a long-term view of the event. He said that Science Night should not be regarded merely as a one-off programme, and that efforts should be made to create a lasting experience for the university and its audiences.

Preparations for Science Night

A report on preparations for the different parts of the event was presented during the remainder of the meeting. The measures being taken for Science Night include designing a visual identity, preparing a dedicated website, planning lectures and workshops, producing multimedia content, and preparing the executive sections.

The event’s dedicated website has also been prepared to provide information and content related to Science Night. It will include sections such as the programme calendar, lectures, workshops, multimedia content, the timetable, and information about sponsors.

Discussions are also under way with several industrial organisations and potential sponsors about participating in the event, while the potential for cooperation with organisations active in science communication is also being considered.

The meeting stressed the need for coordination among the university’s different sections and for making use of the capacities of faculty members, students, staff members, and directors to advance the Science Night programme.

At the end of the meeting, the official poster for the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS) Science Night event was unveiled in the presence of the IASBS President, vice-presidents, directors, faculty members, and organisers.

Science Night will be held on 29 October 2026. The IASBS intends to use its scientific, cultural, and executive capacities to promote more effective engagement between society and science and familiarise audiences with the university’s scientific capacities and achievements.
