The 100th national meeting of heads of universities, research centres, and science and technology parks has been held with the participation of the IASBS President, Prof Sadollah Nasiri Gheydari. Iran University of Science and Technology hosted the meeting on Saturday, 12 September 2026.
The meeting took place at the Imam Reza International Conference Centre of Iran University of Science and Technology, with the attendance of heads of universities, research centres, and science and technology parks from across the country.
In this meeting, the most important priorities and current issues facing the country’s higher education system, as well as the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology’s overarching policies and approaches were examined. Attendees discussed and exchanged views on the issues and challenges facing universities and educational, research, and technology institutions.
Another part of the meeting was devoted to specialist sessions, in which issues related to scientific and technological development, improving university performance, university relations with society and industry, and the requirements facing the higher education system were examined.
At the meeting, the Minister of Science, Research and Technology, Dr Hossein Simaei, highlighted the role of the scientific community in the country’s development and national strength, and stressed the importance of universities’ scientific and technological capacities. He identified the training of specialised human resources, the development of research and technology, and engagement with society and industry as among the important functions of universities.
The minister also referred to rapid developments in science and technology, including the expansion of artificial intelligence, and stressed the need for universities to adopt a programme-based approach and move towards becoming high-quality, problem-oriented, skills-based, smart, and society-oriented institutions.
The IASBS President also attended the specialist discussions during the event and presented his views and comments on the issues under discussion.
